Alan was born in Oneonta, Alabama, and later moved to Arizona when his father, a cotton broker, was transferred. Alan spent most of his childhood in Yuma, Arizona, except for four years when he attended high school in Davis, California. He earned a Bachelor of Science in Biomedical Engineering from Arizona State University before attending the Sandra Day O’Connor College of Law at ASU, where he graduated with his J.D. in May 1979.
During law school, Alan clerked for Brian Smith at Richards, Smith, and Smith. After graduation, he joined the firm in Yuma, working there from 1979 to 1987. In 1987, he became a partner in Bowman and Smith, where he practiced until 2018. He has since been a big part of our team, that is now Citrine Law,
Alan is married to Tamara Bowman, and they have two children. His son has served in the United States Navy for nearly a decade. Alan is also a proud grandfather to two grandsons, Jasper and Matthew.
Professionally, Alan is a distinguished member of several prestigious organizations, including the Arizona Association for Justice, the Consumer Attorneys of California, the State Bar of Arizona, APITLA, the National Trial Lawyers of America, and the American Association for Justice. He has been confirmed as a senior barrister and ranked among the top 10 attorneys in Arizona for motor vehicle accident cases. Additionally, he is a member of the Million Dollar Advocates Forum, served as chairman of the Disciplinary Commission of the Arizona Supreme Court, and was president of the Yuma County Bar Association.
Alan has primarily practiced in Arizona but also has significant experience in California and Colorado. Since 1990, he has been Board Certified by the State Bar of Arizona in Injury and Wrongful Death Litigation. He is licensed to practice in Arizona, Colorado, the 9th and 10th Circuit Courts of Appeal, and the United States Supreme Court.
Beyond his legal career, Alan enjoys traveling, softball, and martial arts. In 2005, he traveled to China to study martial arts with Shaolin monks and was certified as a specialist in Traditional Chinese Medicine following his studies at the Tongren Hospital in Beijing, China.
